Signal Festival 2024 in the Klementinum
The twelfth edition of the Signal Festival continues the three-year project Ecosystems with the title Ecosystems II: Quest.
The journey has always been a great artistic theme, it is not only the core of countless stories, the key to solving great and personal crises, but also a metaphor for self-knowledge. The personal level is intertwined with the social, and the search for the destination of the pilgrimage often becomes the meaning itself. The festival embarks on a journey into the uncertain realms and corners of our civilization, which is inevitably surrendering to its own technological development. Together with artists who have a unique sensitivity and capacity for reflection, we will touch upon phenomena that are imperceptibly changing the paradigm in which future generations will learn to live. Quest consists of chapters: Machinery Missionaries will be presented in Prague for the first time by London-based studio United Visual Artists with their new exhibition project Strange Attractions. Deep Travellers, for example, will present Silent Echoes, a work by American sound art pioneer Bill Fontana that echoes the silent bells of a burnt-out Paris cathedral, in collaboration with the Ars Electronica festival. The Into the Universe chapter will bring the work ORB by the Spanish studio SpY from the Egyptian pyramids to the Prague Castle gardens, and Dimensional Sampling, a dynamic LED object by the progressive Chinese-American artist Cao Yuxi, to the Old Town Square. Play will transform the Archbishop's Palace with a video mapping by young Czech digital artist Filip Hodas, and fill the Prague Castle Riding Hall with a projection of Coded Tapestry: Prague by Korean artist Seohyo, in which she uses creative coding to play out the motifs of Prague's structures.
On the way along the two festival routes, we will meet a total of 15 programme and two other partner projects.
The accompanying event of this year's Signal is the exhibition The Red Pill at Trafo Gallery, presenting contemporary work by Czech artists working with light technologies.
